It comes at night

Muitas vezes (quase sempre) não estou nem um pouco interessado na teoria, no material correto, na tinta certa, na cor certa, em nada a não ser o desapego e o prazer da coisa. Pra isso, muitas vezes uma ordinária folha A4 , marcadores e um resto de tinta guache na paleta serve muito bem ao propósito. E se por acaso não sair nenhuma super fodastica obra prima, pelo menos ficou o exercício do desapego.

Quite often I am not interested in color theory or in using the right material or even the right paper. Instead, I’d rather cultivate an attitude towards the detachment zone. That’s really what this is all about. Have fun and just keep adding layers until feel that’s enough. For that purpuse, an ordinary A4 sheet, markers and some leftovers on my pallete do the job very well. And if things get muddy in the end, stick to the plan of detachment.

Deixe a luz entrar

Outro teste focando em luz e profundidade. Busquei a referência em uma cena de um seriado na TV, que eu trabalhei contraste e imprimi depois. A propósito, a cinematografia é também fascinante por ser uma uma fonte inesgotável de inspiração e estudo para a concepção de projetos visuais como desenhos ou pinturas, principalmente no que tange aspectos de luz, temperatura da cor, angulo, atmosfera, etc.. Da mesma forma, a mesma mídia tradicional utilizada em storyboards e pinturas, servem como fundamento para desenvolvimento da cena que posteriormente será filmada.  Um círculo perfeito.

Another practice aiming light and depth. I found the reference while watching a TV show that I printed out afterwards. By the way, cinematography is something fascinating because one single scene provides an endless source of inspiration for traditional media, regarding composition, color temperature, angle, atmosphere, etc. Likewise, the same traditional media used in storyboards and paintings, provides the foundation for a filmmaking project.
Isn’t that a perfect cycle ?

Dark waters

Just warming up with these sketches, planning something bigger.
I had almost throw it away because I hadn’t achieved a good reflection effect and didn’t look good at all. It turns out that I let it dry completely and then, on the following day I had changed my mind. The colors had become less saturated and the reflections now look better. Lesson: Let the watercolor dry before anything else.

A “ideia” inicial era descartar porque não parecia bom. Principalmente os reflexos na água. Mas após secar completamente, no dia seguinte eu mudei de ideia. As cores se tornaram menos saturadas e os benditos reflexos pareciam mais convincentes. Lição: Antes de qualquer coisa, deixe a aquarela secar completamente.

MontMart Liner brush set

I used these fantastic long needle brushes for the masts and wires on the bridge. A perfect combination of  fine liner and large mop. Awesome for fine details and precise long lines. Also, it works great for broad brush strokes using the bottom part as you can see below. I have bought my MontMart Set with three sizes from ebay, but it is sold by amazon too.
(Although it is great I recommend only for watercolor because the tip is quite flexible and maybe not stiff enough for other medias such as gouache or oil.)

Usei esses fantásticos e longos pinceis em forma de agulha, nos mastros e cabos da ponte. Excelente para trabalhar com finos detalhes. Muito bom também para traços mais largos e variados usando a parte de baixo com movimentos laterais. Comprei meu MontMart Set  que vem em três tamanhos no ebay *(não fui taxado mas não posso garantir nada). Lembrando que também são vendidos pela amazon.
Recomendo mais para aquarela porque a longa ponta é bem flexível e talvez não firme o suficiente para tinta guache ou óleo, por exemplo.
