In the Garden of Beasts

A personal painting based on a photograph that I saw. As usual I try to apply my style aiming to enhance the sense of fantasy. I like to think that as a cover children’s book.

Pintura baseada em uma foto que vi. Como de costume, tento imprimir um estilo próprio e nesse caso reforçando a ideia da fantasia. Gosto de pensar nisso como uma capa para um livro infanto juvenil por exemplo.

Dark waters

Just warming up with these sketches, planning something bigger.
I had almost throw it away because I hadn’t achieved a good reflection effect and didn’t look good at all. It turns out that I let it dry completely and then, on the following day I had changed my mind. The colors had become less saturated and the reflections now look better. Lesson: Let the watercolor dry before anything else.

A “ideia” inicial era descartar porque não parecia bom. Principalmente os reflexos na água. Mas após secar completamente, no dia seguinte eu mudei de ideia. As cores se tornaram menos saturadas e os benditos reflexos pareciam mais convincentes. Lição: Antes de qualquer coisa, deixe a aquarela secar completamente.

MontMart Liner brush set

I used these fantastic long needle brushes for the masts and wires on the bridge. A perfect combination of  fine liner and large mop. Awesome for fine details and precise long lines. Also, it works great for broad brush strokes using the bottom part as you can see below. I have bought my MontMart Set with three sizes from ebay, but it is sold by amazon too.
(Although it is great I recommend only for watercolor because the tip is quite flexible and maybe not stiff enough for other medias such as gouache or oil.)

Usei esses fantásticos e longos pinceis em forma de agulha, nos mastros e cabos da ponte. Excelente para trabalhar com finos detalhes. Muito bom também para traços mais largos e variados usando a parte de baixo com movimentos laterais. Comprei meu MontMart Set  que vem em três tamanhos no ebay *(não fui taxado mas não posso garantir nada). Lembrando que também são vendidos pela amazon.
Recomendo mais para aquarela porque a longa ponta é bem flexível e talvez não firme o suficiente para tinta guache ou óleo, por exemplo.

Registro de Brasília

 

Outra chance com esse estudo que eu já tinha pintado anteriormente. A esquerda, parte de um restaurante de fast food localizado em um shopping aqui de Brasília e ao centro, uma bicicleta de madeira instalada como parte da decoração. Tentei simular a variação de cor que havia com a incidência da luz matutina. Satisfeito agora com os prédios distantes. Tudo uma questão de usar o pincel de tamanho apropriado.

I gave myself another chance with this one paintend previously. On the left is the side of a Red fast food Restaurant located at a shopping mall. Due to the morning light there was color variation on it. Now I am happy with those distant buildings because I have used the appropriate brush and not a mop as before. On the center there is a wooden bike as part of the decoration or something.

Aventuras errantes com pena e pincel

Eu tenho uma mesa digitalizadora profissional.  Ferramenta muito boa que utilizo para eventuais trabalhos que exigem determinado padrão seja para web, impressão ou simplesmente para agilizar as coisas em situações que demandam um prazo mais apertado.
Mas se tratando de trabalhos pessoais, experiências, aquele rabisco nosso de cada dia, nada como tinta e papel.  Não tem como dizer que o tradicional é melhor que o digital e vice-versa, sendo que muitas vezes as técnicas até convergem. Ambas demandam aprendizado e não oferecem muita coisa sem o mínimo de talento ou vontade de fazer.
Só que pra mim a coisa vem da sensação, do prazer de sujar os dedos e unhas na tinta, de improvisar, de remendar e de exercitar o desapego do ‘ctrl+z’ que não tem preço . Ainda que o resultado possa variar do tosco ao satisfatório, não importa. As vezes Arte é apenas uma questão de necessidade.

I’ve got a Graphic Pen Tablet for drawing. A very good tool indeed that I usually use for specific commissions or simply to speed things up, once the deadline is too tight. It really depends of the situation. However, speaking of personal stuff or everyday doodles, nothing else can be more enjoyable than ink and paper. Certainly the traditional media will ever substitute the digital media or vice versa and occasionally both methods might even converge. Both techniques require learning, talent and strength.
But the thing is that for me I need to feel the sensation, the pleasure of have ink on my fingers and nails, be able to improvise and not only rely on the ‘ctrl+z’ whenever I need to. Well, this kind of thing is priceless. Even though the result may range between the awkward and tolerable. Because sometimes Art is just a matter of necessity.
